Do colleges contact previously attended colleges to verify transcripts?

Do colleges contact previously attended colleges to verify transcripts or do they solely go off the specific transcript you submit to them without verification?

A counselor told me they don't contact the previously attended college.Do colleges contact previously attended colleges to verify transcripts?
The transcripts are sent directly by the previous colleges.Do colleges contact previously attended colleges to verify transcripts?
Although colleges will usually let you order ';official'; copies of transcripts that bear the college seal and registrar signatures, the academic definition of an official transcript is one that is mailed directly from one institution to another. As a result, most admissions offices will not accept a transcript that is not delivered this way. If a transcript IS submitted by the student, the institution has every right to confirm the transcript with the previous institution, and will absolutely do so if they have reason to doubt the validity of the transcript. So your counselor may have thought they were correct, and perhaps they are in a small minority of cases, but they are simply misled. Have your transcripts submitted by one college to the other, and not through you.
I have no idea. I was under the impression that your current college would submit your transcripts directly to the college to which you are applying as a transfer. In other words, you won't actually touch your transcripts.
I know my college had me get my transcript from my previous college b4 I could be enrolled.
